Gunmetal is a tin bronze with zinc and lead, produced by centrifugal casting. It slides well against steel, tolerates poor lubrication and does not rust. That makes it the classic material for plain bearings, bushings and valves.

Leave enough allowance when cutting to length: cast material has a harder outer zone that is removed when boring the bearing hole.
