The standard alloy for extruded profiles: easy to anodise, easy to weld, corrosion-resistant.

AlMgSi0.5 is the most widely used alloy for extruded profiles and tubes. It extrudes very well, which is why it is available in almost every cross-section, and it takes an even anodised layer. For most designs made from aluminium semi-finished products it is the right and most economical choice.

Properties

• Tensile strength approx. 215 N/mm² in temper T66, yield strength approx. 160 N/mm²
• Very easy to anodise, also decoratively: even, clear layer
• Good weldability (MIG/TIG), good bendability
• Weather-resistant, can be used outdoors without coating
• Electrical conductivity approx. 30 m/(Ω·mm²)

Processing notes

For sawing, carbide blades with a coarse tooth pitch are suitable; a coolant prevents built-up edges. The alloy machines reasonably well, but not as freely as a free-machining alloy. If you drill and tap a lot, AlCuMgPb is faster.
