Each card shows the hole pattern at the same scale (detail 48 × 30 mm), the dimension sketch with hole size w, pitch t and web c, and the available materials, thicknesses and sheet sizes. The weight per area applies to the hole field.

Hole pattern designations to DIN 24041
The designation of a hole pattern consists of two letters and two dimensions. We write both letters in capitals so that the designation is clearly legible in lists and on documents.
Position
Character
Meaning
1st letter – hole shape
R
Round hole
Q
Square hole
2nd letter – arrangement
V
staggered rows, holes in a 60° triangle
G
straight rows, holes in a 90° grid
D
diagonally staggered, 45°
1st number
w
Hole size: diameter or side length in mm
2nd number
t
Pitch: distance from hole centre to hole centre in mm
Example: RV 5-8 = round hole 5 mm, staggered, pitch 8 mm. QG 10-15 = square hole 10 × 10 mm, straight rows, pitch 15 mm.
Calculate open area, web width and weight
Open area a0 = factor × (w / t)² with the factors RV 90.7 %, RG 78.5 % and QG 100 %. Web width c = t − w. Weight per area = density × thickness × (1 − a0).
Processing: cutting on the guillotine shear
Rectangular blank
We cut perforated sheets straight and square on the guillotine shear – you enter length and width in the configurator, from one piece.
Margins and hole field
The cut runs through the hole field. Cut-through holes may occur at the edges; the position of the hole pattern relative to the edge results from the sheet. Want a closed margin? Then choose the Perforated sheet with custom margin.
Visible side and burr
Perforated sheets are punched. A slight burr may form on the exit side of the punch. If one side will be visible later, please tell us when you order.
Bending, contours, special perforation
You configure bent parts from perforated sheet in the Bent part configurator. Perforated sheets: larger angle and dimensional tolerances, as the perforation affects the bend. Unperforated margins and your own hole patterns up to 2 mm: Perforated sheet with custom margin with an instant price. Laser contours and greater thicknesses: request a quotation and we will give you the price and delivery date.
Perforated sheets from our workshop
This is what perforated sheets look like in your hand: sample sheets of galvanised steel and ground stainless steel, punched by us and photographed in our workshop in Frankfurt. You design a hole field with an unperforated margin like on these samples as a Perforated sheet with custom margin with an instant price. Read more about production under Punching and laser cutting.

Frequently asked questions about perforated sheets
What does the designation RV 5-8 mean?
The first letter gives the hole shape (R = round hole, Q = square hole), the second the arrangement of the holes (V = staggered, G = in line). Hole size and pitch in millimetres follow. RV 5-8 therefore means: round holes 5 mm in diameter, staggered, 8 mm from hole centre to hole centre. The system follows DIN 24041; we write both letters in capitals.
How is the open area of a perforated sheet calculated?
The open area (also called free cross-section) is the share of the holes in the perforated area. It depends only on the ratio of hole size to pitch: for RV 90.7 % × (w/t)², for RG 78.5 % × (w/t)², for QG 100 % × (w/t)². RV 5-8 therefore has about 35.4 % open area, QG 10-15 about 44.4 %.
What is the web width?
The web width c is the material between two neighbouring holes: pitch minus hole size, i.e. c = t − w. For RV 5-8, that is 3 mm. Narrow webs give a large open area but make the sheet softer.
Where are the holes at the edges of my blank?
We cut perforated sheets square on the guillotine shear from perforated sheets. The cut runs through the hole field, so cut-through holes may occur at the edges. The position of the hole pattern relative to the edge results from the sheet. You get a closed margin to your size with the perforated sheet with custom margin: you choose hole pattern and margin in the part designer, up to 2 mm thick.
Can I order perforated sheets bent or with a laser contour?
Bending, yes: choose the perforated sheet in the bent part configurator (/en/configurator/bent-parts). Perforated sheets: larger angle and dimensional tolerances, as the perforation affects the bend. You design unperforated margins and your own hole patterns up to 2 mm as a perforated sheet with custom margin in the part designer, with an instant price. For contours and greater thicknesses, please request a quotation; we will give you the price and delivery date.
How heavy is a perforated sheet?
Weight per area = density × sheet thickness × (1 − open area). An aluminium perforated sheet RV 5-8 in 1.5 mm therefore weighs about 2.6 kg/m² instead of 4.0 kg/m² for a solid sheet. The configurator calculates the weight of your blank automatically.
How is a perforated sheet blank priced?
For perforated sheet, we always charge the whole source sheet from which your blank is cut. The price in the configurator already includes this, as well as the cut.
Can I buy whole perforated sheets?
Yes. Most hole patterns are available as a 2,000 × 1,000 mm sheet (small format), some also as a medium format of 2,500 × 1,250 mm and a large format of 3,000 × 1,500 mm. Simply enter the sheet size in the configurator. The table of the hole pattern shows which sizes are available for each material and thickness.
Is perforated sheet available by the metre?
We supply perforated sheet as a whole sheet or cut square to your size, for example as strips in the length you need. That way you receive finished blanks and save yourself the cutting. You see the price including the source sheet immediately in the configurator.
Is perforated sheet available with a margin all round?
Yes. With the perforated sheet with custom margin, you choose the hole pattern and the unperforated margin to your size in the part designer, up to 2 mm thick, with an instant price.
