Additional service for laser and bent parts
Threads and countersinks.
Ordered together with the part.
We cut metric threads from M3 to M16 and countersink holes at 90° for countersunk screws M3 to M8 – directly after laser cutting and before bending. You choose the hole, we draw the tap drill hole for you.
It's that simple
- 01
Choose a hole
In the part designer, click a round hole and choose “Thread M…” or “Countersink for M…”.
- 02
We draw the tap drill hole
We set the hole diameter automatically: tap drill hole for the thread, clearance hole for the countersink. You do not need to look anything up.
- 03
See the price, order
The price per thread and per countersink appears as a separate line on the part. If you upload a STEP or DXF file, we suggest suitable holes – e.g. “8 holes Ø 5.0 – cut M6 thread?”.
Prices
Fixed prices per thread or per countersink; set-up is included in the part price, there is no separate set-up line. Net plus 19 % VAT; gross prices in brackets.
You see the current prices in the Part designer directly on the part.
Design rules
The part designer and file upload check these rules automatically. If something does not fit, you see a note with a suggested solution – or you send the part to our sales team with “Request manual pricing”.
- Through holes only. We cut threads into laser-cut through holes – so the thread carries over the full sheet thickness.
- Sheet thickness for the thread: at least 0.5 × and at most 1.5 × the nominal diameter – for example M6 in 3 to 9 mm sheet. Thinner sheet has too few thread turns, very thick sheet strains the tap.
- A countersink needs material: sheet thickness at least the head height of the countersunk screw + 0.5 mm (column “Sheet from”).
- Distance to the edge: from the hole edge to the part edge at least 1 × the nominal diameter – for M6 that is 6 mm.
- Distance to the bend: as for every hole, the table value “hole → bend line”. We cut the thread before bending; too close to the bend line it distorts. Values for each sheet thickness in the design guidelines.
- Sizes: Threads M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, M10, M12, M14, M16; 90° countersinks for M3 to M8.
- Stainless steel: threads up to M12. Stainless steel is considerably stronger than structural steel; we cut larger threads in steel, aluminium, brass and copper.
Frequently asked questions
Can I also order threads on bent parts?
Yes. Design the bent part with holes in the part designer or upload a STEP file. Threads and countersinks are made before bending.
My STEP file already contains countersinks. What happens to them?
For the laser, we calculate with the cylindrical clearance hole. If we detect a countersink, we suggest “Countersink for M…” as an additional service – then it is included in the price.
Which materials?
All sheets from our laser range: steel, galvanised steel, aluminium, stainless steel, brass and copper. Stainless steel has its own price in the table; we cut threads in stainless steel up to M12.
Do I need a particular tap or tolerance?
We cut metric coarse threads (ISO). For fine threads, inch threads or special tolerances, please enquire via Contact.
