What is Corten steel?
A weathering structural steel, for example S355J2W to EN 10025-5. Outdoors it forms a red-brown rust layer (patina) that slows further corrosion.
When does the patina form?
After a few weeks to months outdoors. Alternating rain and drying is needed. Under a roof the colouring remains uneven.
Does Corten steel stain?
Yes, especially at the beginning. Run-off rust water stains light-coloured stone, concrete and render. Keep a distance or create a gravel drip zone.
How do I care for Corten steel?
No painting needed. Avoid standing water, leaves and soil on the surface. Then the patina becomes even.
Which thicknesses are available?
The approved thicknesses can be selected online in the configurator. We supply other thicknesses up to 8 mm on request.
