Aluminium AlMgSi1 (EN AW-6082)

The strong structural alloy: about one and a half times as strong as AlMgSi0.5 (T6 versus T66), also weldable.

AlMgSi1 is used when AlMgSi0.5 is too soft: for load-bearing parts, axles, beams and wherever load sits on a narrow cross-section. It remains weldable and weather-resistant.

Shapes in Aluminium AlMgSi1 (EN AW-6082)

Properties

  • Tensile strength approx. 310 N/mm², yield strength approx. 260 N/mm² in temper T6
  • Good weldability; strength drops in the heat-affected zone
  • Weather-resistant, also outdoors
  • Can be anodised for technical use; less even decoratively than AlMgSi0.5
  • Bend only with generous radii, temper T6 has limited formability

Typical applications

  • Load-bearing structures, cross-members, brackets
  • Vehicle and special vehicle construction
  • Tool and fixture construction

Processing notes

Higher strength means higher cutting forces: feed more slowly when sawing than with AlMgSi0.5. For tight bending radii, have it annealed first or switch to a softer semi-finished product.
