AlZnMgCu1.5 is the strongest common aluminium alloy and comes from aircraft construction. It is used where weight matters and high forces still act. It is not welded and is sensitive to stress corrosion cracking.

Shapes in Aluminium AlZnMgCu1.5 (EN AW-7075)

Properties

  • Tensile strength approx. 540 N/mm², yield strength approx. 480 N/mm²
  • Not suitable for welding
  • Good machinability
  • Sensitive to stress corrosion cracking: protect outdoors
  • Considerably more expensive than the 6000-series alloys

Typical applications

  • Mould making and tooling plates
  • Highly loaded brackets and shafts
  • Model and prototype construction, motorsport

Processing notes

Treat cutting as with steel: clamp more firmly, saw more slowly. Deburr edges, because notches are more critical with this alloy than with soft aluminium.
