Stainless steel 1.4571 (X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2, V4A)

The acid- and chloride-resistant stainless steel: for road salt, coast, swimming pools and chemicals.

The molybdenum in 1.4571 protects against pitting by chlorides, exactly where 1.4301 gives up. Titanium stabilisation also makes it insensitive to intergranular corrosion after welding. It costs more; it is used when the environment demands it.

Properties

• Tensile strength 500 to 700 N/mm², yield strength at least 200 N/mm²
• Resistant to chlorides, road salt, sea air and many acids
• Good weldability, resistant even without post-treatment (titanium-stabilised)
• Austenitic, not hardenable
• Considerably more expensive than 1.4301

Processing notes

Machine like 1.4301, only slightly tougher: saw slowly, cool well. Pickle or brush heat tint after welding, otherwise corrosion resistance is lost exactly there.
