Cr/Ni/Mo in mass % according to the grade's standard (EN 10088-2/-3, EN 10095). Corrosion: class to EN 1993-1-4, “–” = not classified. Austenitic grades become slightly magnetic through cold forming. Typical values; the certificate supplied with the delivery is binding.
Frequently asked questions
1.4301 or 1.4404?
1.4301 (V2A) is sufficient indoors and in normal outdoor areas. With chlorides – de-icing salt, coast, swimming pool – use 1.4404 or 1.4571 (V4A). The molybdenum protects against pitting there.
Is stainless steel magnetic?
Austenitic grades such as 1.4301 and 1.4404 are practically non-magnetic. After bending, they can become slightly magnetic. Ferritic grades such as 1.4016 and 1.4003 are magnetic.
What is the difference between 1.4404 and 1.4571?
Both are V4A with molybdenum and equally resistant. 1.4404 is low in carbon, 1.4571 is stabilised with titanium. Both are easy to weld.
Why is there lettering on my stainless steel part?
Stainless steel sheets carry a mill marking with material and heat number. This is normal and links your part to the inspection certificate. The rolling mill determines where the marking sits on the sheet. Deburring or grinding weakens it, but it may still show through. You can remove the marking without residue using cellulose thinner and a clean cloth.
