EN AW-5005 is an aluminium alloy that can be anodised particularly evenly. This sheet arrives already anodised: E6 stands for the chemically pickled, matt pre-treatment, EV1 for the colourless natural shade. The surface is therefore finished: cutting, bending if required and installation are all that is needed; no further treatment.
Properties
- Anodised layer in natural shade (EV1), matt pickled (E6)
- Hard, weather-resistant surface, more scratch-resistant than mill-finish aluminium
- Protective film on one side: the film-covered side is the visible side
- Laser-cut edges are bare, i.e. not anodised
- The anodised layer does not conduct electricity. Strip the spot bare for earthing or contact
Surface finish
Factory-anodised, with protective film on one side; the side without film is not intended as a visible side. The configurator does not ask for the visible side. For bent parts, note in the “Note” field which side should remain visible. The natural shade may vary slightly between batches; it is best to order parts for one continuous surface together. Only peel off the film after installation.
Design rules and bending
Bending is possible; the protective film stays on the sheet. The anodised layer is hard and hardly stretches: fine hairline cracks or a light shimmer may appear on the outside of the bend, the more so the smaller the inside radius and the thicker the sheet. For visible parts, therefore plan a generous radius and, where the design allows, put the visible side on the inside of the bend; if in doubt, request a sample part first.
| Thickness | Minimum flange | Inside radius | Hole to bend edge |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mm | 11.7 mm | 3.4 mm | 9.7 mm |
| 1.5 mm | 11.9 mm | 3.4 mm | 9.7 mm |
| 2 mm | 12.1 mm | 3.8 mm | 9.7 mm |
| 2.5 mm | 12.3 mm | 3.8 mm | 9.7 mm |
| 3 mm | 12.5 mm | 3.7 mm | 9.7 mm |

Cutting methods and tolerances
We cut rectangular blanks on the guillotine shear. DIN ISO 2768-m applies to length and width; the cut edge is sheared, and a slight roll-over and a burr are normal in production. We laser-cut parts with cut-outs, holes or free contours.
